Travelling etiquette

It's not only the London tubes and buses that this happens - it's on the other side of the world too... When travelling there seems to be a few different types of people:

1. The person who never uses more than their space, and always sits by the window if that seat is empty (rather than the aisle).
2. The person who puts their bag on the seat next to them when the bus/train isn't very full but as soon as there is a chance that someone may need that seat they move their bag so that the seat is available. They sit next to the window if that seat is available so that those coming down the aisle can easily take a seat without having to squeeze past.
3. The person who leaves a bag on the seat next to them to try and stop anyone else sitting there. This type of person is all the more annoying if they listen to music on headphones and close their eyes so that the only way they notice that you need the chair where their bag is if you physically tap them to get their attention.
4. The person who always sits on the aisle seat so as to make it awkward for anyone to sit next to them as they have to push past them to get to their seat. Note that if you try to push past this type of person to sit down when there is a pair of seats available somewhere else, this person will have been montitoring seating carefully and will tell you to go and sit on the spare pair of seats rather than disturbing them. (I tend to tell them I'd like the particular seat next to them if they try that, it annoys me so much!)
5. 3 and 4 together, and when you signal that you need the seat next to them they take an eternity to move their bag and allow you to sit, huffing and puffing as they do it.

We're all human - it's not as if you can catch some terminal disease from just sitting next to someone or possibly even - god forbid - brushing lightly against them!!

Michelle and I are both type 2. If you are a 3, 4 or a 5 then take a long hard look in the mirror!!

Having seen the number of mistakes that England (and South Africa 2nds) made at Twickenham on Sat find it very difficult to see how we are going to get ready for the world cup. Goode played well when he came on but what does it day if we have to revert to "ten man rob andrew in the early nineties" style rugby. Goode is in the Andrew mould. It may be that we have to in the short term to win some games but it will not win us the world cup. I feel the Welsh side of my allegiance growing stronger again.... With regard to the Ashes -I would play 2 spinners if conditions are at all suitable. Having lost Banger would now go with........

1.Strauss
2.Cook
3.Bell
4.KP
5.Colley
6.Fred
7.Jones "the glove"
8.Gilo (his re-modelled action is better than before)
9.Harmy
10.Hoggy
11.Montster

Big Sajid has yet to convince me that he can be the man.
Although I am willing to be proved wrong.
He has a great action.
And he is not a one day bowler (yet at least) and so has been judged unfairly.

Glad to see your comments Richard! It's before 8:30 in the morning here so Michelle isn't with me at the moment (she's in bed obviously!), but I'm sure that she'll be thrilled that you have mastered technology and started leaving comments!

Please no....Goode is awful. He may be in the Rob Andrew mould but he isn't even vaguely as good. Watch how easily he gets brushed off by strong runners - which he gets a lot in his channel in defence. And he has one good kicking game in 2 so that's 50% of the games we're destined to lose if he plays 10.

Maybe I'm just scarred by watching him play when he was at Saracens a few years ago....I know players can get better but week in week out he seemed to be alarmingly weak with the boot, and just when you thought they really must drop him he'd have one good game and survive on that for the next 10 weeks. Seriously, he was that bad I thought about giving Saracens a shout and offering my services - I couldn't have been any worse!

Please Andy Robinson, go and watch Ryan Lamb play down at Gloucester. But come to think of it I haven't seen him kick conversions - I assume someone that skillful can kick penalties and conversions?!?

Goode looked a great deal better than Hodgson when he came on against South Africa: mind you, I know that isn't saying much!
Australia are 109 for 1 at lunch at Brisbane: England bowling was poor, particularly Harmison, whose first ball went straight to 2nd slip! Giles is playing rather than Panesar. Don't know whether you know all this, where are you at the moment?
