Beckham

I heard on the radio that 70% of people in england agree that McClaren should pick Beckham...glad I'm not alone then!

Am going to look and see what the story is about Reading now...I heard a guy at a bar slagging them off like they'd committed a cardinal sin!

Yes, I think most people feel that Beckham was pretty harshly treated after the World Cup; he's never been the fastest thing on two legs or the world's greatest tackler, but at least he gives his all every game, which is more than you can say for the present lot.
Reading's sin was that, in the course of their league game against Chelsea, they managed to injure both Petr Cech (sorry, not being a Chelsea fan, don't know about the spelling!) and Carlo Cudicini, Chelsea's first and second choice goalkeepers. Mourinho is predictably up in arms about the injuries and the alleged slowness of the arrival of an ambulance for Cech. Both injuries in my view were caused by typical old-style English centre forward play, of which Nat Lofthouse would have been proud (but perhaps I'm just showing my age!). Cech's injury, which was in the first minute of the game, was a fractured skull and he'll be out possibly for as long as a year. Maybe I'm naive, but I don't believe either of the Reading players involved intended in any way to cause an injury: both collisions looked accidental and at worst the challenges were reckless rather than malicious.

Despite having to play their 3rd choice goalkeeper, Chelsea still beat Barcelona 1-0 at Stamford Bridge tonight. Liverpool also won, 1-0 at Bordeaux.

Incidentally, OMT beat Chiswick 41-17 last Saturday: the biggest win I can remember, and none of the 41 points was from penalties!
