Where is everyone?
New Zealand is beautiful - no doubt about it. Everywhere we go, even 2 minutes outside a "town", there are beautiful views. Perhaps that's why so little is built up - it would be a shame to spoil any of it...apparently only 1.4% of land is "urbanised".
There just doesn't seem to be anyone here! Even in Wellington and Auckland, it had the feel of a town the size of Watford...the population is apparently larger but we couldn't find any evidence of it!
We'll keep you updated on sitings of people...I'm hoping (Michelle isn't!) to go to a Super 14 game of rugby on 11th Feb at Christchurch - that will probably be the most people we will have seen...

However small the population, NZ still seem able to humiliate us at both rugby and cricket.
It seems to be a motivational thing; I think the answer is to pay our so-called professional sportsmen just a subsistence wage, augmented by a success bonus only when earned. Regrettably money seems to be the only thing that motivates them, not pride in their own or their country's performance. In the "bad" old days there wasn't this problem: wealth and fame didn't come quite so easily then and had to be earned.
Have you managed to sort out your visas and malaria protection for India now?
What's come over English sport all of a sudden? First we beat the Aussies in an ODI (admittedly partly thanks to an imported Irishman!) then we beat the Scots fairly convincingly on the rugby field. Maybe it's something to do with bringing back some of the old lags: 10-14 were Wilkinson, Robinson, Tindall, Farrell, Lewsey.
How are things going in NZ? We haven't heard from you for a while.
