Chaing Mai
Michelle bravely decided that she'd go on the coach (she gets travel sickness on coaches) as the overnight train we'd planned on getting couldn't get through to Chaing Mai due to floods. We arrived in one piece although it's not that easy to sleep on coaches...but easier than planes!
We got here at 8am and had a leisurely breakfast before finding the Sumit hotel to stay in - 300 Baht a night (around 4 pounds we think?!) for a double bed, a fan and hot water in a private bathroom. After a sleep we then went for lunch where the meals were 30 Baht each - you can do the maths...very cheap!
Chaing Mai is such a nicer atmosphere than Bangkok...we're now really looking forward to seeing the rest of Thailand...after 3 days in Bangkok we were a little concerned...or at least I was!
We're booked in for a Thai cooking course tomorrow...fingers crossed we don't poison ourselves! I haven't remembered to use bottled water for cleaning teeth and we've had lots of ice in drinks, but so far no ill-effects.
Oh yeah, and by the way we both had our first massage yesterday....very enjoyable if slightly concerning at times - the masseurs seemed to have no inhibitions about nakedness at all! Michelle was asked if she wanted her breasts massaged (by the woman masseur) and the man massaging me must have touched my privates about a dozen times in 1 hour...just fluke/bad luck??? :-)
